The Provisional Electoral Council announces the postponement of voter registration and candidate registration to a later date. In the meantime, the CEP is taking steps to align the decree and the electoral calendar with Articles 12 and 14 of the National Pact for Stability and the Organization of Elections. According to our information, the elections scheduled for August 30th will be postponed due to this situation.
The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) informs the general public, and political actors in particular, on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, of the publication, on March 24th, 2026, of a decree issued by the Council of Ministers amending Article 3 of the decree of September 18th, 2024, appointing the members of the Provisional Electoral Council and setting their terms of office. This new decree instructs the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to "take all necessary measures, within its purview, to implement the provisions of Articles 12 and 14 of the National Pact for Stability and the Organization of Elections."
As part of the implementation of this decree, the CEP is currently working on harmonizing the Electoral Decree of December 1, 2025, with the provisions of Articles 12 and 14 of the Pact. This process significantly impacts the electoral calendar.
Consequently, the CEP announces the postponement of voter registration and candidate registration, initially scheduled for April 1 and 13, 2026, respectively. New dates for these operations will be announced shortly.
Furthermore, the Provisional Electoral Council reaffirms its commitment to conducting the electoral process in strict compliance with its institutional independence and democratic standards, in an inclusive, impartial, and transparent manner.
