The MTTC in action: traffic disruptions following severe weather in Haiti

Under  At the initiative of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC) has launched a large-scale emergency operation in the metropolitan area. Technical teams and heavy equipment have been mobilized to address the damage caused by the torrential rains.

The interventions are primarily targeting the most affected areas, where accumulated debris and stagnant water are severely disrupting traffic and daily activities. Intensive dredging and clearing operations are underway, particularly in Carrefour Rita, Carrefour Fleuriot, Juvénat, and several strategic neighborhoods of the capital.

While the urgency of the situation demands immediate action, it is important to remember that managing urban flooding cannot be limited to one-off interventions. The problem lies both upstream and downstream, and a sustainable response requires an integrated approach.

The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC), under the Prime Minister's authority, remains fully committed to the dredging and clearing operations. However, implementing lasting solutions requires shared responsibility and close coordination between local authorities and all stakeholders to address the root causes of these recurring problems.

Aware of the ongoing risks, the Ministry informs the public that these drainage and cleaning operations will continue unabated throughout the rainy season. The government thus reaffirms its commitment to reducing the vulnerability of infrastructure and ensuring mobility across the entire country.
