"As the United States celebrates the nation's 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed US passports to commemorate this historic event," State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott wrote on X.
He republished an article from Fox News Digital showing the new design, which includes an inside photo of Donald Trump with his signature in gold, as well as an image of the Founding Fathers gathered on the day of the United States Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.
No sitting US president has ever appeared on a passport.
A commemorative gold coin bearing Donald Trump's image is also to be minted for the anniversary.
Since his return to power, his name has been added to several buildings in the capital, including the iconic Kennedy Center and the Peace Institute.
Donald Trump also plans to host an IndyCar race in Washington from August 21 to 23, as part of the United States' 250th anniversary celebrations.
Passports bearing Trump's image will only be issued in Washington and will no longer be available once the supply is depleted, a State Department official said on condition of anonymity.
