Haiti Mobilizes International Partners to Strengthen Security and Revive the Electoral Process

On the sidelines of the Security Council meeting devoted to the quarterly report of the UN Secretary-General on BINUH, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Haiti, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Her Excellency  Raina Forbin, participated in a side event co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Haiti and Canada to the United Nations.

This meeting brought together some sixty Member States, including the United States, France, Germany, Kenya, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, China, and Brazil, as well as several international organizations and partners.  Also participating were high-ranking officials, including Jack Christofides, representative of the Gang Repression Force, Ms. Catherine Russell (UNICEF), and Carlos G. Ruiz Massieu, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Haiti.

The event aimed to strengthen coordination among members of the Security Council, countries contributing to the Gang Repression Force (FRG), and all partners working alongside Haiti.

In his address, the Prime Minister called for increased mobilization of the international community to support the Haitian government's efforts in security and the resumption of the electoral process. He emphasized the urgent need for the full deployment of the FRG and the importance of strengthening support for key reforms, particularly in the areas of justice, the fight against impunity, and disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR).

He also emphasized the importance of violence prevention, particularly through initiatives aimed at young people to limit their vulnerability to recruitment by armed groups.

The Government of the Republic of Haiti reaffirms its commitment to restoring security, organizing credible elections, and ensuring lasting stability, with the support of its partners.
