The Haitian National Police (PNH) informed the public in a press release on Monday, April 27, 2026, that four police officers have been placed in isolation as part of an investigation led by the Inspector General's Office (IGPNH) regarding the alleged misconduct.
What are the various acts these officers committed in violation of the law and PNH regulations?
The PNH specifies that these measures are in strict compliance with internal procedures, which aim to guarantee transparency, discipline, and the proper functioning of the institution. The High Commander of the PNH is taking these measures to strengthen public trust in the police and improve the image of the police force.
He also reiterates that the PNH is a hierarchical and disciplined institution that operates according to principles and rules that are mandatory for all its members, without exception. Every police officer is required to respect these rules, including the formal prohibition against using the institution's equipment and materials to commit dishonest acts in the street that could disturb public order.
In light of this situation, the General Directorate is appealing to the public for calm and asking all police officers to remain at their posts to continue providing normal services. The Haitian National Police (PNH) clarifies that it only recognizes uniformed officers in regulation uniform and with proper identification as police officers; any person wearing a balaclava and carrying weapons and creating a disturbance of public order will be considered by the PNH as an individual liable to the penalties provided by law. The PNH reaffirms its commitment to security and respect for the law.
